To be a parent of a child is the most precious gift given to you by God. In short, it’s a toy with a soul which completes your family. However, in some cases, you find yourself unfortunate to pair that your child is born with a rare heart disease called congenital heart disease.
What is Congenital Heart Disease?
The term “Congenital” means when a child is born with heart defects such as structural simple holes, narrow valves, the absence of one or more chambers in the heart and abnormal connections between the hearts. These are known to be various types of CHD where the functioning of the heart is found to be irregular and the person affected needs regular treatment to have a stable life in the future.
Problems of congenital heart disease
In medical terms, there are stages of congenital heart and they are:-
Problems in babies
Difficulty in feeding
Mother of the newborn babies often complaints that they are facing problems in feeding the child which is affecting the health of the baby.
When the child is making an extraordinary effort to breathe faster than normal and just because he’s not getting sufficient supply of oxygen to maintain the balance between the heart and the mind.
Poor weight gain
During the regular check-up when the doctor finds that the baby is not gaining weight according to the age, it becomes a matter of concern and proper diet chart is to be maintained for the precautions.
Problems with the children
Frequent chest infection
This happens when the body refuses to create a strong immunity and even the slight illness could become a major problem in the future. Complaints about uneasy throat are few of the symptoms.
Shortness of breath
This happens when the body fails to maintain proper coordination between the heart and the lungs because the person faces a problem in inhaling the air.
The slightest effort and hard work make the person too much tired that he could very easily faint and fall down. In cases like this, the doctor advised keeping the patient in a home environment to prevent such miss happening.
Causes of congenital heart disease
Let’s now discuss and understand the causes of congenital heart which interrupts us sending out with regular alerts.
There is no specific cause of this but in a few cases, infection during pregnancy named “Rubella” which is in alcohol and drugs could be one of the reasons.
The medical case history of family members like parents, grandparents, siblings could automatically bring you in the queue to be the prime suspect.
Mothers who are addicted to smoking habits during pregnancy have to make sure that the child is without CHD. Therefore, it’s better to control the habits that will harm you and your child in the future.
Solutions to congenital heart disease
Just to be at the safer side it’s better to take precautions before the pregnancy. The medical fraternity is well prepared to handle cases like these before the child is born. They use a special type of technique in Sonography called “Fetal Echocardiography” in which sound waves are used to create the picture of the baby’s heart.
Implantable heart devices
In some cases of congenital heart defects, the doctor uses certain devices, like pacemakers and Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICDs). However, it can help regulate an abnormal heart rate, and an ICD may correct life-threatening irregular heartbeats.
This allows the doctors to repair certain congenital heart defects without surgically opening the chest and heart. The doctor will insert a thin tube into a vein in the leg and guide it up to the heart. After which the doctor will use tools threaded through the catheter to correct the defect.
Open heart surgery
This happens when even the devices are not enough to manage the heart and it’s working form a long surgery the doctors may close the holes of the heart and repair the valves/widen blood vessels.
In the rarest of the rare cases when after following all the medical knowledge and weapons if the doctor is still unable to correct the natural fault the only option which is left is a heart transplant. In this process, the defected piece is being replaced by a proper and healthy machine which can help you in continuing your life further.
However, there are certain medicines in the market which can stabilize the heartbeat of the baby.
We may ignore the fact that the statistics in this category are very low that 1 out of 150 cases gets affected by the heart disease but that one should also be eliminated from the list.
The overall calculated census almost affected with this disease are 32000 babies.
Remember to take care of own self and your babies to give a bright future ahead.
Let’s promise our self to fight against this heart disease and keep our children healthy.
