Ingredients for Drumstick Flower Veg recipe

To make the Drumstick Flower Veg

  • 500 gram Drumstick Flowers and Buds
  • 2, 3 garlic cloves
  • 2 large Tomatoes
  • Green Chilies to taste
  • Salt to taste + 1 tbsp at the time of boiling
  • 2 tablespoon oil
  • 1 cup curd
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garam Masala
  • 1 pinch asafoetida

Preparation Of Drumstick Flower Veg recipe

To make the Drumstick Flower Veg

  • When you buy the flowers and buds of drumstick just ensure it doesn’t have any unwanted stems.
  • Boil some water in a pot and add salt.
  • When the water comes to a boil add the flowers and let it cook for a minute and then turn the flame off.
  • Close the lid and let it sit overnight or 8 to 9 hours.
  • This will take out the bitterness out of the flowers.
  • After soaking for 8 hours the water will become brown.
  • Now drain the flowers and put them under running water.
  • Put the flowers back in the pot and add fresh water. Keep boiling it for 20-25 minutes till the flowers are soft and cooked.
  • You can take a flower and try to mash it with your fingers.
  • Drain the flowers using a colander. Squeeze out extra water using your hands. It will mash up the flowers but its okay. You can do it in batches. Keep them aside on a plate.
  • In the meanwhile, chop some garlic, tomatoes and green chilies for the temper.
  • Take a curd bowl and add salt, red Chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and mix well.
  • Now in a wok add some oil, add asafoetida. Then add garlic and cook for a minute. Then add chopped tomatoes and green chilies. And cook till tomatoes are softened.
  • Then add curd mixture and cook until oil begins to separate.
  • Add boiled and drained flowers and mix. Cover it with a fitting plate and let it cook on low flame for five minutes.
  • Sprinkle some Garam Masala. Now it’s ready to eat.
  • Serve hot with rotis.

Recipe notes


  • Use curd to remove the bitterness of the flower.
