To make the Hare Chane Ki Kadhi With Moong Daal Pakodi

  • 1 Cup fresh green chickpeas(hare chane)
  • 1 Litre buttermilk
  • 1 Cup Yellow dhuli moong daal
  • 6-7 Garlic clove
  • 1 big chunk of Ginger
  • 4-6 Green Chillies
  • 1/2 tbsp turmeric powder
  • 2 Medium sized onion
  • 1/4th cabbage
  • 1 small potato
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 litre oil for frying
  • 1/2 tbsp mustard seeds
  • 10-15 curry leaves
  • Salt to taste

To make the Hare Chane Ki Kadhi With Moong Daal Pakodi

Preparation of Kadhi

  • Wash green peas and peel the garlic cloves.
  • Grind green peas, garlic, ginger and 4 Chillies into a fine paste.
  • Mix this paste and buttermilk and water.
  • Heat a heavy bottomed pan and put 1 tbsp oil in it.
  • Add mustard seeds and curry leaves to the pan.
  • When the mustard seeds start popping and curry leaves start to release aromatic flavour, add the green peas and buttermilk paste to the pan.
  • Once it comes to boil add turmeric powder and salt to it.
  • Now let the Kadhi cook for 10-15 minutes on low flame.
  • In the meantime, we will prepare moong daal pakodis.

Preparation of Moong Daal Pakodi

  • Soak Moong daal for 2-3 hours.
  • Coarse grind the soaked moong daal with ginger and 2 green chillies.
  • Finely chop potato, onion and cabbage.
  • To this moong daal paste add chopped potato, onion and cabbage and add salt to taste.
  • Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan for frying.
  • Put small balls of moong daal paste in hot oil to make pakodis.
  • Add 8-10 moong daal pakodis to the boiling kadhi.
  • After adding pakodis cook kadhi for 2-3 minutes more.
  • Serve hot with rice and chapatis.

Recipe notes


  • Don’t skip adding chopped cabbage to the moong daal paste for making pakodis as it makes the pakodis crispier.
