Kesariya Meva milk

Kesariya Meva milk is my great grandmother’s treasured heirloom recipe. It is a delicious and healthy preparation and very effective remedy for cold, cough and body ache during the winter season. Turmeric (Haldi) has natural antibiotic properties and milk is a rich source of calcium. The combination of these two natural ingredients along with the goodness of dry nuts /dry fruits in this milk based power packed drink can keep diseases and infections at bay.

Ingredients for Kesariya Meva Milk recipe

To make the Kesariya Meva Milk

  • 1 1/2 glass milk
  • 2 teaspoons of finely chopped dry nuts like almonds, small pistachios, cashew, raisins, dry dates, chironji/chiroli
  • 2 pinch saffron strands
  • 1/4 th teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 pinch green cardamom powder
  • 1 tablespoon sugar or according to taste

To garnish

  • 1 teaspoon of chopped almonds
  • 1/2 teaspoon chopped pistachios
  • 1 pinch saffron strands
  • 1 pinch cardamom powder

Preparation Of Kesariya Meva Milk recipe

To make the Kesariya Meva Milk

  • Soak saffron strands in a teaspoon of milk and keep aside.
  • Put milk in a deep pan and bring to a boil.
  • Simmer over low heat, stirring a few times till it thickens (about 1/3rd should be evaporated, at least).
  • Add turmeric powder, sugar, saffron milk and cardamom powder.
  • Stir till the sugar is dissolved.
  • Add chopped dry nuts and simmer for about 5 minutes until all the flavours infuse into each other.
  • Pour into a glass and serve hot or warm garnished with saffron, almonds and pistachios.

Tips

  • This milk preparation should be consumed warm and on the same day/night for best results.
  • The quantity of dry nuts can be increased according to the requirements and taste.
